Minister: integration bill ready this year

Every individual and every organisation in the country must do their bit to make immigrants feel at home here, says minister

A bill on integration policy will be submitted to Parliament this year, says new trade and environment minister Magnus Rasmussen, who oversees integration.

He believes that successful integration is likely to require much broader efforts than what the national and local authorities can do on their own.

“All individuals, employees, organisations, religious communities, etc. will need to work together to help immigrants become an active part of daily life in the Faroe Islands."

The minister adds that the current DKK 1.9m annual appropriation for teaching Faroese as a second language must be increased.

About 30 school teachers will be enrolling in teaching Faroese as a second language courses later this month.
